I bought the one-year version and within a day or so of playing with XY concluded it was the best piece of software I had seen - so I upgraded to the lifetime license. Try File - Save Settings, as a start.
XY has LOTS of special settings to save and is almost infinitely customizable it seems but see if my suggestion helps any.

FWIIW - I like the 'fixed' arrangement for the light brown background that is only present for folders of a removable drive. Makes it much easier when you are copying stuff in to the said removable drive because its folders appear against a different background from folders of the C:\ drive - and so...

I hardly ever use File Explorer either - but image attached, I hope an informative one!
Very high screen resolution - 3940 x 2400. I am quite happy with the Tree Path Tracing width as it happens.

Yes - a fresh instance. And the color all goes away if I untick "Show Section Colors"
