XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
Please assist...
When I try to move a large batch of files that are about 600gb to another folder(s) on the same drive, XY starts to hang/freeze with my current configuration. With a fresh instance, its work fine. I experimented with the background processing and still nothing. Matched the settings of the File Operations to that of the File Operations in the fresh instance and still nothing. Added XY to the process exclusions of Windows Defender, nothing. Made sure there are no custom columns as read earlier somewhere in the forum.
Not sure where else to go...

Attach the XYplorer.ini (renamed to .xys)...

Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
highend, thanks for your response.
My first post here in this thread may have been a bit of a knee jerk reaction and I seemed to have found a solution that works for me.
To be more exact on the first post, selecting a list of large files of about 700gb in a single folder at the root of an external USB hard drive via Ctrl A is instant. It was the right clicking of the mouse after where the freeze/pause of about 20 seconds took place and during this time I heard my 20TB Seagate drive head seek. The continued clicking of the mouse during this freeze/pause moment created the hang and resulted in XY not responding(and the knee jerk reaction). Now to be honest, I never actually keep this many large files in a single folder and I was just cleaning up some drives and moving things around temporarily that is why I think freeze/pause was foreign to me. So I ended up creating two sub-folders in the first folder and split the list of files between the two folders and the problem went away. I was heading that way anyway with the relocation of these file and it is going to be split even further after I sort this, so its definitely not an issue for me. Also, going back to that right clicking, just simply waiting for the context menu to load and not clicking anywhere resulted in no hang ups. Then after, cut and paste to the other folders were lighting fast, literally, like a flash and done.
Anyway, I think I'm good.
Thanks

You have a problem with a configured instance while you don't have it with a fresh one. Don't you think you can help others that may suffer from the same problem in the future if we'd know what config options leads to that problem?...

When you say: "Attach the XYplorer.ini (renamed to .xys)..."
Do you mean renamed like this XYplorer.xys?

I just changed the forum settings: INI files can now be attached without renaming them.

Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
You're using the 32-bit context menu, so:
How many items are in the original folder (not when split up into two)
When you right click on the selection, is the click above a file name?
If yes, does it make a difference if it's a small or a large file (1 MB vs. 10 GB)?
Please set these options and try it again (with all files in the same folder):
Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips | [x] Only while the shift key is held down

Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
1932 files in original folder.
Right click is/was done in a blank area to the right side of the pane where there are no columns so no, not above file name.
Selection of smaller file quantities via left mouse button held down and drag to select files in the same single folder with all the files has no issue with context menu showing instantly when right clicking.
I said before that I selected all files instantly with Ctrl A, however when I use shift and down arrow to select files it freezes shortly after and I begin to hear the PC fans ramping up high but still no speeding up in the selection of files. Checked fresh instance again and yeah, its very fast compared to this configuration and seems even faster than windows explorer. With copy/paste operations in fresh instance and explorer there are no fans ramping up either. Also, I timed the wait period for the context menu to show up both before and after selecting the File Info Tips options you just mentioned and in both cases it was 25 second so that had no effect in performance.

Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
I want to amend something I said earlier as I just noticed something. This seems to be only with files and not folders. I just copied the entire single folder with all the 700gb of files in it to another folder and had no issues. Did not have to split it. It was instant.
Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
It's about the 32-bit context menu chocking when you click on white after selecting all files.
That it does work flawlessly when you invoke the context menu on that folder alone...
The problem is: I don't see any relevant settings in your .ini that I could probably blame for doing this...
Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Mouse | [x] Point to select
Uncheck this, try it again...
And: Can you keep that full folder for a while so we can test eventually a bit more with it?
My analyzer tool (that shows all the differences of an .ini file) isn't complete yet...

Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
Tried this and still same issue.Configuration | General | Menus, Mouse, Usability | Mouse | [x] Point to select

So to be even more exact after reading your response here and to correct myself from earlier comments once again, its the moment I Ctrl A to select all the files that I start the hear the PC fans ramp up and this is even before right clicking the white space. So I just this discovered now, when I Ctrl A all files, wait for 25 seconds before right clicking or wait for the fans to ramp down, then right click, its fine and I can select all files.
So its not actually the right clicking first and perhaps not about the context menu either, its the selection of the files where the delay takes place.
Also, this may not be relevant but I'll mention it anyway, I copied all those files from the 20TB, 7200rpm Seagate drive to the 4TB, WD 850X, NVME SSD/7300MB/s speeds, and then tried the to select all files and same thing, fans ramping up and delay taking place.
Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
I said in an earlier post that when I Ctrl A all files that is was instant. Its the blue highlighting of the files in the list after Ctrl A that made it appear to look instant but I guess that not the case anymore.
Re: XY freezes with large file copy but is okay with fresh instance
So to be 100% sure:
You're in that folder. The mouse cursor is not over any file at all. CTRL+A => XY "freezes" for about 25 seconds?
It can't be the number of files you're selecting because I've tried it with 50.000 a minute ago.
Add the "Type Stats and Filter" button to the toolbar.
Click on it, make a screenshot of the popup menu that it displays, show it...
