Crashes, Sluggish, Known good files don't open

Post by killsbugsqk »

I'm running XYPlorer Ver 25.40.0100 on Win 10 Pro, Ver 10.0.19044 build 19044 and have 3 issues at the moment

1) When trying to open PDF files via double clicking, XYP intermittently does nothing. Looking at the Task Bar I can see Adobe has opened and is flashing but XYP has not released control to open Adobe.
- Switching to Adobe manually, it shows an error dialog box that it can't open the file. "ADOBE ACROBAT There was an error opening this file. This file is already open or in use by another application" This is not true as I have not touched the file in days, weeks or even months. It is not open in another application. I have tried this with both Adobe and Word closed and no other files open and I still get the error.
- Clicking OK on the error and going back to XYP, I repeat the process and it usually it opens the PDF, some times it errors again and sometime it just crashes. Don't know if this is the system reacting slowly to a double click but it's odd.

2) While called N0.2 this is my single biggest complaint. When performing cut and paste functions with multiple files (like 2 or 3 but I have tried it with more) from for example the Downloads directory on my laptop to Google Drive the program will crash and close.
- When the program crashes it doesn't remember where it was. If the last thing I did the night before was browse to my MP3 folder and shutdown, it remembers where I was but if I startup in the morning (from the MP3 folder) change directories and perform several file operations and then try to copy and paste a file, XYP crashes and I have to restart. The program it goes back to the MP3 directory (not the last working directory). It doesn't remember the last active windows which were open, even if they were previously open for minutes at a time which is plenty of time to autosave these directories. In addition to having to restart the program, the directories I work in are usually buried 4 or 5 directories deep in 2 different drives drive. Remembering the source file path and then finding it again especially when I have dual panes open takes REAL time, not just a double clicks but 15-30 seconds to scroll through the many directories, make sure I have the correct source one and then I have to do this again to find the target directory.

3) I have used XYPlorer Free for a long time starting with the free version in 2016 or 2017 but it became buggy and just stopped using it. I decided I wanted the features XYP offers and this time I switched and purchased the Pro version. When I started to use the Pro version again it was still unstable and started crashing and closing for no reason. When I upgraded, I downloaded the most recent ZIP from your website and installed as new program but did not remove the Free version until later. I don't know if they are sharing DLL's or something else but the new Lifetime version I purchased is not living up to expectations that I had and used in the past. Any help or feedback in much appreciated. It's far superior that the built in file manager Windows has but if it can do basic file management operations it is no longer be the goto program it used to be.

Cheers Bill

1) Opening the same .pdf file via Windows Explorer works flawlessly?
Show the full path to acrobat.exe

2) It does only crash when the files are copied to google drive or to any local drive as well?
How is google drive connected, via webdav (and a drive letter), an external software, ...?

3) There are no shared .dlls
Quit XY
Make a backup of your profile and delete the XY profile folder afterwards
Start XY
It's "unconfigured" now?

Check if the problems with 1) and 2) are still present with this new profile

Correct. Opening in Windows File Explorer (WFE) works flawlessly. XYP works but only after Clicking the file, getting the error and clicking the file a second time
Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 2015\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
2) It does only crash when the files are copied to google drive or to any local drive as well?

I have not been able to define the exact circumstances under which it crashes other than file transfers. I will need to pay closer attention when doing this to provide better feedback. Google drive was installed from their app store. What usually happens is that I'm browsing the internet and find something I want to save so it goes into Downloads. Then I move the files according to the topic to a directory on Google Drive Ex: Woodworking. Google drive is listed as my D:. Usually (just me way of working) is to find the file using WFE, cut the file so as not to have things saved in multiple places, open or switch to XYP and paste the file(s) onto the D:/Woodworking/Jigs and things/ directory using Ctrl+V and as soon as I do, XYP closes and the files are not transferred.
Make a backup of your profile and delete the XY profile folder
I don't ever remember creating a profile but I'll find it and do as you suggest and provide feedback.

Thank you very much

Is the PDF being previewed in XYplorer while you try to open it?
